View the Properties for your network adapter, select the Power Management tab, clear the Allow the Computer to Turn Off This Device to Save Power check box, and restart your computer. If your network card still does not respond, shutdown the computer, unplug the power adapter, remove the laptop's battery, wait 30 seconds, reconnect everything, and try again.

To use the public Ethernet portals on campus, you must be a current Virginia Tech affiliate, configure your laptop to use DHCP, and plug your Ethernet cable into the port. When these steps are complete, open your Internet browser, go to the Virginia Tech Web site (you will be redirected to a network confirmation screen), and log on with your PID and password.
